Project Name : Ubomanli ≪Hanok Within a Western Theater≫
Task Scope : Identity design
Category : Commercial
Completion : Jul. 2024
As the title ≪Hanok Within a Western Theater≫ suggests, the performance's characteristic was that an act symbolizing a Hanok takes place within the White Cube theater. Thus, the challenge was to develop a medium that functions visually between the contrasting [Western Theater] and [Hanok]. First, as an approach to develop a medium connecting [Western Theater] and [Hanok], I adopted [Harmony in Disharmony: Fusion] as the project's visual concept. After adopting the concept, there was consideration over [what parts of the two subjects to fuse]. Since I had to capture the characteristics of the two subjects within a limited format while simultaneously resolving them in a fused form, I adopted an approach utilizing the [Pillar] and [Eaves] representing the two subjects.
Upon entering visualization, I proposed a form where the [Eaves] representing [Hanok] are built atop the [Pillar] representing [Western Theater]. The core content of the performance proceeds by symbolizing [Hanok], but since the performance was also scheduled to take place within the ARKO Arts Theater—which possesses Western theatrical architecture—I deemed it appropriate to adopt a new form as the performance's language by assembling the representative images. Ultimately, through the new form fusing [Pillar] and [Eaves], I aimed to evenly bring out the characteristics of both subjects while ensuring there were no significantly disparate points.
